We're seeing more reports of clonidine abuse...typically in people who also abuse heroin or other drugs.
Abusers take high doses of clonidine for its sedative and euphoric effects. They also use it to reduce withdrawal symptoms when they don't have money to buy illicit drugs.
Some people are taking 1 to 3 mg of clonidine...at least ten times the usual dose for hypertension. A few have even tried eating clonidine (Catapres-TTS) patches!
