The CDC no longer recommends using quinolones to treat gonorrhea in California or Hawaii.
Quinolone-resistant gonorrhea is common in Asia and the Pacific Islands...now it's spreading to the West Coast.
In these areas, the CDC recommends using cefixime 400 mg or ceftriaxone 125 mg IM for initial treatment of gonorrhea.
